An important question,
What amount of fuel mileage, in Miles Per Gallon (MPG), should a new land transportation vehicle achieve?

A very interesting article about the forthcoming 2006 TOYOTA 'Yaris' (their 'Echo' replacement) car which achieves 41-51 MPG (City/Highway) with a small 1.5 liter gasoline fueled ICE powerplant and manual transmission.

Its sad that the old Geo metros used to get close to 60mpg, but that was over 10 years ago. A friend had one, and used to brag about it, I didn't believe it until we took a trip together. That little 1L 3cylinder was pretty efficient, and dirt cheap to boot.

My dad is now questioning why his new 'PT Cruiser' offers poor fuel mileage compared to a dated MAXIMA. (20 years old and still achieves 20/26MPG!)
Hopefully, U.S. vendors will innovate!
